Ismail Kadare House

The childhood home of world-famous Albanian writer, Ismail Kadare was turned into a museum three years ago. Described in detail in his book "Chronicle in Stone," readers will imagine Kadare as a little boy standing by the window viewing his grandparents, other characters in his book, and many episodes from World War II.

The house, built in 1799 and declared a cultural monument in 1991, has been repaired and rehabilitated under the auspices of UNESCO and the Ministry of Culture and opened on January 28, 2018, the 80th anniversary of Kadare's birth. Located in the center of the historic Palorto neighborhood, visitors will find original objects belonging to the family such as furniture and phortographs.
