National Folk Festival

The National Folk Festival is the symbol of Albanian folk culture. The festival is held at Gjirokastra Castle. This international event was originally created in 1968 to celebrate Enver Hoxha's birthday in his hometown. Today, it is one of the country’s most important events. The concerts performed by iso-polyphonic groups, a tradition classified as intangible heritage by UNESCO, are a major highlight.

Christmas Lights Festival

The Christmas lights festival will be a wonderful event held in Gjirokaster's newly reconstructed Çerçiz Topulli square. Winter market featuring handmade products; local food and drink festival; Tree Lighting Ceremony; Live music and performances; Children’s activities; photos with Santa Claus. Together, we will share ideas and responses about our connections with each other, with our environment, and with the season. Many buildings, parks, streets, and houses will be illuminated with light structure creations accompanied by sound, movement, and interactive play. All of the events will take place in a beautiful Christmas setting.

This event is a great opportunity to unlock new memories, so bring yourself, your friends, or even your family. There is something to do for everyone that attends Gjiro Open Air. See you on 25 – 28 November 2022 in Gjirokastër, the stone city. This event is organized with the support of the Albanian Development Fund through PIUTD in partnership with Gjirokastra Municipality. The project is part of the Integrated Urban and Touristic Development (PIUTD) - Development of the Touristic Product in Gjirokastër.

Kush të pa e nuk të mburri

Ethno-music, ethno-choreographic, handicrafts interwined with polyphonic songs and traditional dances, musical instruments etc are the values which have been created and inherited since centuries by the Albanian people. This event aims to highlight and promote not only the latters, but also the values of the museum city of Gjirokastra and especially its Historic Center, the tourist attractions of this city by combining elements of cultural heritage with the traditional one. In addition, the two-days event will have a significant value in the context of promoting cultural tourism and increasing the attraction of local and foreign visitors.

Walking with History Festival

A colourful Festival, organized in Gjirokastra castle, unlike any other of the events proposed here which contributes to the brand essence of Gjirokastër, revive destinations’ history through various performances and shows and showcase the historical, cultural, natural historical richness and heritage characters of the country by going back in time. Festival programme will display different periods of Gjirokastra rich history based on previously collected information on historical events. Stories and legends revitalizing at the same time the Castle area. All this in a form of a big theater where all can be actors in it.
