National Folk Festival
24 Jun to 1 Jul

The National Folk Festival is the symbol of Albanian folk culture. The festival is held at Gjirokastra Castle. This international event was originally created in 1968 to celebrate Enver Hoxha's birthday in his hometown. Today, it is one of the country’s most important events. The concerts performed by iso-polyphonic groups, a tradition classified as intangible heritage by UNESCO, are a major highlight.

The festival features the best of Albanian folk traditions: music, dancing, arts and crafts, and costumes. The event brings together about 1,000 artists from Albania, Kosovo, and the Republic of North Macedonia, as well as some international folklore groups.
