Visit the ancient cities
Not far away from Gjirokastra you can visit the ancient city of Antigonea and the ancient city of Adrianople, of which only its ruins remain. Adrianople, situated 14 km from the city, was built during the period of the Roman Empire and carries rare historical and cultural values. The Ancient city of Antigonea is a 45-hectare archaeological park located on the eastern side of the Drinos Valley. According to the ancient Greek historian Plutarch, Antigonea, founded in the 3rd century BC, was the city that was built by love and destroyed by hatred.
